Additional Artifact added to Aquanauts to Astronauts Featured Exhibit at the History of Diving Museum

The History of Diving Museum (HDM) is pleased to announce an exciting addition to its Aquanauts to Astronauts Featured Exhibit. Thanks to the help of Adele Luta, Extravehicular Activity (EVA) Project Manager at Oceaneering International, HDM has acquired a safety tether that is used to secure astronauts during spacewalks. Alongside this, visitors to the exhibit will have the opportunity to see astronaut training equipment, flight suits, and various other artifacts from multiple space missions.

The Aquanauts to Astronauts exhibit will be on display until December 31st. It explores the fascinating connections between diving and space travel. It delves into the fact that astronauts are often trained for spacewalks underwater, using comparable spacesuits at the Neutral Buoyancy Lab, or they even live in isolated underwater habitats to simulate extended time in space. In addition, special weighting techniques are employed to replicate the low gravity experienced on alien worlds. Discover more about the aquanaut training facility located in the Florida Keys, as well as other captivating stories and parallels.

The Museum offers presentations and guided tours that are ideal for groups and schools visiting the Florida Keys. If you require a speaker for a monthly dive club meeting, you can bring the Museum in Motion virtual programming to your location. These programs can focus on the wonders of Aquanauts to Astronauts, as well as other topics. To schedule a program, please contact [email protected].
