What is Green Fins?
Green Fins is an internationally implemented conservation management approach by The Reef-World Foundation and the UN Environment Programme. It aims to reduce the negative environmental impacts of marine tourism, particularly on coral reefs. By promoting sustainable diving and snorkelling practices, Green Fins provides environmental guidelines and the only internationally recognized standards for marine tourism. Their assessment system ensures compliance with these standards.
Green Fins empowers divers, snorkellers, the diving industry, and coastal communities to adopt environmentally friendly practices. It offers practical alternatives to harmful practices such as anchoring, fish feeding, and chemical pollution. Additionally, it provides strategic training, support, and resources to reduce the pressures of tourism on coral reefs. By alleviating these pressures, Green Fins contributes to the health and resilience of coral reefs, especially in the face of climate change.
