VIP Diving Participates in Unique STINAPA Bonaire Junior Ranger Program
July 17, 2023In 2009, STINAPA Bonaire introduced the Junior Ranger Program to engage young people aged thirteen to twenty-one in activities that promote an appreciation for nature and Bonaire’s environment. The program includes lectures, presentations, and outdoor activities throughout the school year. One of the highlights of the program is scuba diving, which starts with the Open Water Course and offers various specialty courses up to the Divemaster level.
In 2014, Kevin O’Brien, Course Director at VIP Diving, introduced the Junior Ranger dive program to VIP Diving. For the past nine years, VIP Diving has generously provided facilities, rental equipment, and instructor time for the Junior Rangers. We are proud to have been the home of the Junior Ranger Program for all these years, and many Junior Rangers have maintained relationships with our shop and staff, with some even achieving the rank of PADI Divemaster. Through donations and volunteer work, the Junior Rangers in this program have been offered valuable opportunities for personal development and future career options. The program has paved the way for students to become PADI Instructors, STINAPA Rangers, and marine biologists not only in Bonaire but beyond. The dedication and awareness instilled in the Junior Ranger Program contribute to the protection of Bonaire’s future generations.
Every year in June, the Junior Ranger Program holds a graduation ceremony to honor the achievements of the participants. The Junior Rangers progress through different ranks, such as Kadets, Troopers, Deputies, Captains, and Commanders, each representing a higher level of dedication, responsibility, and experience. The ceremony also recognizes the hard work of STINAPA staff, volunteers, and parents. Graduation marks the completion of activities and scuba certifications attained during the school year. These ceremonies serve as a platform to celebrate accomplishments, inspire excitement for the future, and acknowledge the efforts of everyone involved.
VIP Diving is committed to supporting the Junior Ranger Program in the upcoming school year and beyond. Despite the summer break in Bonaire, two Junior Rangers are currently working towards their PADI Divemaster certifications, with VIP Instructors volunteering their time and expertise to guide and mentor these young men. We take great pride in being able to contribute to real change in Bonaire, however small. At VIP, we believe in elevating experiences with people and the planet in mind. We hope that our partnership with the Junior Ranger Program continues to grow and evolve over the years. We extend our best wishes to the
