DAN “Powered by Diventures” September 2023 CME Trip to Dumaguete, Philippines

August 9, 2023 Off By Destination Deep

In partnership with Diver’s Alert Network (DAN), Diventures is organizing an exclusive DAN continuing medical education (CME) travel opportunity for doctors. The event will take place from September 23-30, 2023, at Atlantis Dumaguete in the Philippines. This unique opportunity allows doctors and medical professionals to travel, engage, and attend CME credit seminars led by highly trained professionals from DAN and the Center for Hyperbaric Medicine.

DAN has been hosting the DAN Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine course since 1983. This program focuses on diving and hyperbaric medicine, with an emphasis on the latest scientific literature in the field. The course includes lectures, case presentations, support materials, and both formal and informal discussion sessions with faculty.

The course is primarily designed for physicians but is also valuable for emergency medical personnel, paramedics, nurses, professionals, instructors, divemasters, and nonmedical diving-related personnel interested in dive medicine. Attendees completing this course will gain the ability to discuss and apply relevant facts to scheduled topics. They will also develop a broader understanding of current issues and be more familiar with recent scientific literature in diving and hyperbaric medicine.

The learning experience will be reinforced through case reports from the DAN Medical Services Call Center Quality Assurance archives, examples from recent diving research, and the personal experience of the faculty.

The topics covered in this course include medical and physical fitness to dive, diving safety issues and current research, hyperbaric medicine applications, protocols and mechanisms, decompression physiology and pathophysiology, diving injuries and their management, and controversies in diving medicine.

During the program, participants will stay at Atlantis Dumaguete Resort, which is at the heart of Dumaguete’s dive scene. The resort is surrounded by well-preserved sanctuaries teeming with diverse marine life.

The package includes 7 nights in a deluxe room with double occupancy, with the option to upgrade to oceanfront or garden suite rooms at a 50% discount. All meals at the resort’s Toko’s restaurant, coffee, hot tea, iced tea, and filtered water throughout the day are also included. Guided boat diving is scheduled from Sunday to Thursday, with 2 afternoon dives and 2 morning dives on Friday. Nitrox (12 tanks) valued at $108, unlimited internet access, and round-trip domestic transfers from Manila to Dumaguete are also part of the package.

However, customer airfare, trip insurance (highly recommended), gratuity ($120/diver suggested), dive medical insurance (required for all divers), marine park fee (approximately $50/diver), customs fees, land excursions, COVID-19 testing fees, unforeseen damages, airline and travel expenses, and the course tuition of $800 are not included.

The prices for the trip vary based on occupancy and diver/non-diver status. The rates are as follows: Diver Double Occupancy rate – $3,080 per person, Diver Single Occupancy rate – $3,580 per person, Non-diver Double Occupancy rate – $2,240 per person, Non-diver Single Occupancy rate – $2,740 per person.
