Soulful Transformation: The Healthy Way She Overcame Her Fear of Sharks

Lately, my mind is consumed by thoughts of diving underwater with a tank on my back and a regulator in my mouth, surrounded by the incredible creatures that inhabit the sea, especially sharks. However, it wasn’t always this way…
Back in 1975, as a young girl, I went to see the movie JAWS. In just an hour and a half, my soul became filled with an intense fear that kept me away from the ocean until my mid-forties. The vivid images of sharks hunting, attacking people on boats, and dragging them beneath the surface haunted my thoughts. Despite my love for the ocean and the beautiful creatures I saw Jacques Cousteau interact with in his documentaries, my fear overshadowed that love, all thanks to that summer thriller.
Fast forward to 2005, when a personal tragedy left me numb and uncertain about my future. I was merely existing, not truly living. This continued for three years until something magical happened.
In 2008, I traveled to the Turks and Caicos Islands seeking solace from my numbness. Looking out the plane window during my first international flight, I was captivated by the breathtaking turquoise water and imagined the beauty that lay beneath the surface. While there, I challenged my fear by snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters of Grace Bay. Terrified the entire time, I was also mesmerized by the colorful fish and the soothing sounds of the ocean. This was the beginning, and I knew I had to find a way to experience the underwater world that Jacques Cousteau had revealed to me years ago.
