With the annual two-day spiny lobster sport season and the start of the traditional lobster harvesting season in the Florida Keys just a few weeks away, local officials are urging visitors and residents to have a safe and environmentally friendly experience.

The two-day sport harvesting period, known locally as “mini-season,” begins at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, and ends at midnight on Thursday. The regular lobster season starts at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, August 6, and runs through March 31.

Law enforcement agencies are working together to enforce lobster harvest and boating safety regulations. Divers are advised to be in good physical health and ensure that they have a valid dive certification and properly functioning dive equipment and boating gear before heading out to catch lobsters.
